When food is produced but not consumed, this leads to unnecessary CO2 emissions, biodiversity loss and land and water consumption. 38% of the environmental impact from avoidable food waste in Switzerland happens in households. Already knowing and caring about some of these facts, we wanted to focus further on this topic.

During the process, we learned a lot of new skills and got to combine different styles, aesthetics and techniques such as winning natural pigments from food leftovers, creating food stamps, printing photos and scans in riso, which was fun to experiment with.
However, finding a strategy to integrate all this in a final product proved to be a slight challenge. Through the idea of a little booklet, we managed to incorporate all of those without becoming too incoherent. Once decided on a suitable paper and printing technique for the photographs and scans (riso) we managed to combine the three approaches quite well. Although in the end, it worked out, we realised how unpredictable riso prints can be in terms of colour accuracy only during the process. However, getting to exchange knowledge from each other, was what enabled us to try out so many different things.

Having a shared vision seemed to enhance our ability to communicate with each other.
Especially because we came from different backgrounds with different experiences, we decided to find our individual approaches on the topic first and then bring them together to broaden our perspective. Through this way of working we not only expanded our knowledge but also gained more awareness.
